In my life at Taylor University, I am typically optimistic. There are times, however, when stress overwhelms me and I cannot function, let alone say a nice thing about this college. So here is one thing that has bothered me as of late; it is rather trivial.
Recently, the Communications Department decided to remove the dusty old darkrooms from the journalism quadrant and implant wonderful new Mac-Labs. Some people were saddened at the loss of old school photography facilities, some were upset by the loss of a make-out room. I, however, was thrilled with this prospect. I love using Macs (it is rare for me), and I thought that since I am a Photographer for
this department, of course I would be able to use them. Not the case. In fact, the Mac-Labs aren't for photography at all. They are for
video. Disappointing.
Well, I got over it. Then came the infamous switching of checkout systems for the Echo/Ilium cameras. I was
not pleased. This new system was not implemented by Donna (our advisor) or even her authority figure. It was (oh this kills me) decided by the new video profs that the newspaper would have a different system,
just like their's. After a lot of work going through the camera equipment and creating checkout sheets, it finally happened - the cameras are out of my hands (except one which I will hold on to till dying breath). But, this too, I got over.
Now, in the culmination of two months of being frustrated with this department, I am finally
fed-up. Those Mac-Labs that I spoke of earlier? Now there is BLARING music coming from them. Constantly. I can no longer think in the one place on campus where I was at peace and could focus. So, now, instead of studying for my four tests and two quizzes that I have this week (not to mention writing papers that are due), I am instead, writing this blog. All because of the video department.
